Bangkok: Blood, a vital resource, is being highlighted this Thai Labor Day as an opportunity for Thai workers to contribute to the health and well-being of patients across the nation.
According to Thai News Agency, the National Blood Centre, in collaboration with the Thammasat University Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy Alumni Association, is organizing a significant event titled "May Day Donate Blood Save Lives - Every Drop of Blood Matters." This initiative, set for May 1st, 2026, aims to commemorate National Labor Day by encouraging blood donations. The event will be held at the National Blood Centre, 12 regional blood service centers across the country, and Thammasat University Hospital. Participants will receive a special "May Day - Give Blood Now" T-shirt as a token of appreciation.
Associate Professor Dr. Dujjai Chaiwanichsiri, Director of the National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society, emphasized the importance of National Labor Day. She highlighted it as an international day that acknowledges workers' contributions in driving economic growth. Dr. Chaiwanichsiri invites all healthy workers to donate blood, underscoring the necessity of maintaining a consistent blood supply to aid patients nationwide. The event aims to foster the habit of donating blood every three months, emphasizing that "giving blood cannot wait; every second is an opportunity to save a life."
As a special incentive, blood donors on May 1st, 2026, will receive a limited edition 'May Day - Give Blood Now' T-shirt, sponsored by the Thammasat Business and Accountancy Alumni Association (TBSA). Donations can be made at the National Blood Centre on Henri Dunant Street, with registration available via Facebook from April 28-30, 2026. Attendees are asked to honor their scheduled donation times.
The 12 regional blood service centers participating include locations in Lopburi, Chonburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Si Thammarat (Thung Song), Songkhla, Phuket, the Hua Hin Red Cross Blood Service Station in Prachuap Khiri Khan, and the Udon Thani Provincial Blood Service.
Donors are requested to answer health questions truthfully to ensure the safety of both donors and recipients. It is also advised not to use blood donation as a means of blood testing in case of uncertainty regarding one's health status.
