Thai Workers in Israel Urged to Prioritize Safety Amidst Middle East Tensions

Bangkok: Thai workers in Israel are being urged to stay in safe locations as tensions rise in the Middle East. The Ministry of Labour has coordinated with local authorities to ensure the rights and benefits of workers, particularly those from Chaiyaphum, are protected. They have also instructed the labour attach© in Israel to ensure the safety of Thai workers in the region.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Santi Nantasuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Labour, expressed condolences to the family of a Thai worker who tragically passed away in his hotel room due to ongoing conflicts. The worker had legally registered for employment abroad through the Ministry's recruitment agency on May 28, 2025. An autopsy will be conducted in Israel, and the body will be repatriated to Thailand.

The Ministry of Labour has visited the deceased worker's home in Chaiyaphum province to provide support and assist with the repatriation process. Mr. Santi highlighted the financial benefits available to the worker's heirs, including a death benefit of 40,000 baht and a retirement pension of 71,459.14 baht from social security. Additional compensation is expected from the Israeli insurance institution, covering funeral expenses, monthly and annual allowances, and other forms of assistance.

In response to the situation, Mr. Santi has tasked the Labour Attach© in Israel with ensuring Thai workers adhere to safety protocols. He has also instructed agencies across Thailand to communicate with workers' families, emphasizing the importance of safety and caution amidst the current unrest.
