Bangkok: In a significant move to enhance energy efficiency and reduce public expenses, Thailand is promoting 40 energy-efficient products certified by Thai Industrial Standards (TIS). These products include electrical appliances and electric vehicles, aimed at reducing energy consumption across various sectors.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of Industry, emphasized the Ministry's commitment to fostering industrial growth while safeguarding the environment. The Ministry has tasked the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) with speeding up the implementation of energy efficiency standards. This initiative is designed to guide manufacturers in producing high-quality products that will ultimately lower energy costs for consumers.
The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) reports that there are currently 40 energy efficiency standards, which include 5 mandatory and 35 general standards. These standards primarily focus on household electrical appliances, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines, among others. Additionally, they cover products like electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and materials such as window film and thermal insulation.
The Ministry of Industry, through TISI, is also offering fee exemptions as incentives to encourage the development of energy-efficient products. A total of 119 entrepreneurs have already benefited from these licenses, covering 235 products. TISI is also collaborating with the Department of Treasury to promote TIS-certified energy-efficient products as a priority in government procurement. This initiative, aligned with Ministry of Finance regulations of 2017, aims to significantly broaden the market for energy-efficient products.
