Thailand Aims for World Pride 2030 with Bangkok Pride 2026 Event

Bangkok: The Thai government is inviting all citizens to participate in the "Bangkok Pride 2026" event on May 31st, as a step towards hosting World Pride 2030. The event will reaffirm the success of the equal marriage law in Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized the significance of the 'Bangkok Pride Festival 2026', which will be held under the theme 'Patch the World with Pride'. This initiative highlights Thailand's ambition to host the global 'World Pride 2030' event.

The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) has been collaborating with civil society networks to enhance gender equality through the Gender Equality Promotion Fund. This year, alongside promoting Pride Festivals across the country, the Ministry, in partnership with Bangkok Pride, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a Pride City Network. This initiative will involve 58 pilot provinces and is aimed at supporting Thailand's bid for World Pride 2030.

The event will showcase Thailand's readiness to welcome tourists and LGBTQ+ individuals globally, extending networks to the local level for long-term positive impacts on human rights and the LGBTQ+ economy. The government emphasizes its commitment to human rights and equality, demonstrated by the enactment of equal marriage laws.

The "Bangkok Pride Festival 2026" will feature a nearly 5-kilometer-long parade from Khlong Chong Nonsi Park to Silom and Rama 1 roads. The festival will also highlight Northeastern Thai folk culture, with a performance by the renowned Mor Lam band "Rabiep Wathasilp" at Thep Hatsadin Stadium.
