Thailand Aims to Boost Halal Livestock Exports with New Initiatives

Bangkok: The Department of Livestock Development is ramping up initiatives to enhance the production and export of safe halal livestock products, aiming to boost both domestic consumption and international sales.

According to Thai News Agency, the department took part in the "4th Halal Festival," showcasing its commitment to developing secure halal livestock systems. The event, held from August 20th to 23rd at The Paseo Town Ramkhamhaeng in Bangkok, highlighted the department's efforts to stimulate the halal livestock trade. With expectations that Thailand will produce over 3.8 million tons of meat by 2025, the halal livestock market, particularly in the Middle East, presents significant growth potential.

Dr. Somchuan Ratnamangklanont, Director-General of the Department, has directed the Bureau of Livestock Product System Development and Certification to engage in exhibition activities at the '4th Halal Colors Fair.' The department's participation included an exhibition themed "Safe Halal Livestock, Sustainable Health," which illustrated their mission and achievements in advancing halal livestock systems. They also offered consultations on halal certification standards and export conditions, sharing academic insights with entrepreneurs and stakeholders.

Veterinarian Somchuan emphasized Thailand's capacity to produce diverse halal livestock products, including meat, processed goods, honey, bird's nest, ice cream, and yogurt, aligning with halal standards for global market needs. By 2025, the country is expected to produce approximately 3.82 million tons of poultry meat and products annually, with potential exports of over 1.34 million tons of various poultry products valued at over 168 billion baht. Thai halal products have gained international trust and can be exported to several Muslim-majority countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Malaysia, which have a rising demand for halal food products.

Additionally, the department is encouraging attendees to participate in a survey on the Halal Livestock Industry Development and Promotion Project for the fiscal year 2026. The survey, accessible via a QR code at the event booth, aims to gather feedback to enhance the efficiency of operations and better meet the needs of entrepreneurs and the public in Thailand's halal livestock sector.
