Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkaew, has expressed optimism regarding Cambodia's more conciliatory stance following their participation in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). He emphasized Thailand's commitment to clearly demarcating its borders with Cambodia before engaging in resource-sharing discussions.

According to Thai News Agency, during a meeting at Government House, Mr. Sihasak provided updates on the initial session of the Compulsory Conciliation Commission. This session is a part of the ongoing reconciliation process between Thailand and Cambodia under the 1982 UNCLOS framework. He conveyed these details to the Prime Minister, reaffirming Thailand's position that establishing a clear maritime boundary is a prerequisite for any talks on sharing resources.

Mr. Sihasak highlighted that while Cambodia is interested in benefit sharing and joint development, Thailand insists on finalizing border demarcation before proceeding with resource-sharing discussions. He noted that Cambodia's recent behavior reflects an improved attitude, indicating a willingness to engage more constructively, which could pave the way for further dialogue between the two nations.
