Bangkok: Thailand and Peru are preparing to finalize a significant Free Trade Agreement (FTA) this year, marking a strategic advancement in trade and logistics access to South America. The announcement came following a farewell meeting between the Prime Minister and the Peruvian Ambassador, who has been instrumental in reinforcing Thai-Peruvian relations over the past 60 years.
According to Thai News Agency, Her Excellency Ms. Cecilia Zunilda Galarreta Baz¡n, the Ambassador of Peru to Thailand, concluded her term with a courtesy call on Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The discussions highlighted the ambassador's admiration for Thailand and the robust cooperation between the two nations, which he believes has flourished during his tenure.
The discussions emphasized the economic collaboration, particularly the ongoing negotiations for the Thailand-Peru Free Trade Agreement. Both parties expressed eagerness to finalize the FTA within the year, recognizing its potential to enhance bilateral trade.
Food security was another focal point, with both nations acknowledging their agricultural capabilities. They agreed to explore future cooperation opportunities, with Thailand positioned as a vital food supplier to Peru and the broader South American market.
The conversation also touched on logistics, specifically the Chancay Port project, which presents an opportunity for Thailand's involvement.
