Bangkok: Thailand and Singapore have pledged to elevate their long-standing defense partnership, targeting new cooperation in cybersecurity and the protection of critical subsea infrastructure. The discussions followed a meeting in Bangkok between Thai Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Adul Boonthamcharoen and his Singaporean counterpart, Chan Chun Sing, who is on his first official visit to Thailand since assuming his post.

According to Thai News Agency, the two ministers discussed enhancing security cooperation based on long-standing mutual trust and strategic partnership. The talks covered plans to elevate military ties across multiple dimensions, including joint exercises, defense industry development, and cybersecurity. Both sides also emphasized strengthening the role of ASEAN through the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM-Plus frameworks.

A key point of the discussion involved the security of Critical Underwater Infrastructure (CUI). Both parties agreed on its importance and expressed readiness to drive cooperation in this area. The Thai side is currently in the process of reviewing relevant draft documents.

This meeting reflects the close ties between the two ministries and marks an important step toward concrete military cooperation to ensure sustainable regional stability.
