Thailand Braces for Severe Weather with 24-Hour Public Assistance on Standby

Phuket:The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for volatile weather conditions expected from November 5-7, urging officials to prepare for round-the-clock public assistance. The government specifically cautions residents of southern Thailand and Phuket to brace for heavy to very heavy rainfall anticipated from November 7-9.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, highlighted the forecasted unstable weather in upper Thailand and significant rainfall in the South during the specified period. This situation is expected to bring thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rain to various regions, with an escalation in rainfall between November 7-9.

Ms. Ploytalee further explained that the Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command is gearing up for potential flash floods, standing water, landslides, mudslides, and strong winds. They have instructed relevant agencies to ready personnel and machinery, closely monitor weather updates, and be vigilant in areas prone to heavy rainfall and flooding. Efforts will include timely dissemination of warnings to residents and tourists, expedited water drainage, and deployment of personnel to monitor risk areas, particularly those with installed water pumps.

The government emphasizes adherence to flood preparedness guidelines and provides an emergency hotline (1784) and a Line account ("DDPM Emergency Reporting 1784") for assistance requests. Officials have been directed to stay on standby, ensuring 24-hour availability to aid the public in case of emergencies, Ms. Ploytalee stated.
