Bangkok: The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced an elaborate celebration for the Chinese New Year of the Golden Horse, marking the 51st anniversary of Thai-Chinese friendship. The festivities will take place in Bangkok and Hat Yai, with additional support from Nakhon Sawan and Suphan Buri provinces, aiming to generate 42 billion baht in revenue nationwide.
According to Thai News Agency, the "Amazing Thailand Happy Chinese New Year 2026" festival was presented at a press conference, with an invitation for global tourists to partake in the grand celebrations. The event promises a vibrant atmosphere with cultural performances from China and various demonstrations, anticipated to attract over 3.5 million tourists to Thailand during the Chinese New Year period from February 13-22, 2026. Key figures at the event included Mr. Yang Xiaolong, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, and Ms. Thapanee Kiatpaiboon, Governor of TAT, among others.
Ms. Thapanee Kiatpaiboon highlighted the significance of the celebrations, which coincide with the 51st anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations and the 22nd anniversary of collaboration between TAT and China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism. This partnership has continually promoted cultural exchange, reinforcing the notion that "China and Thailand are one family."
The Bangkok festivities, organized by TAT in partnership with several agencies, will illuminate Yaowarat Road with decorations and activities from February 7th to March 1st, 2026. A highlight will be the opening ceremony on February 14th, featuring performances by Chinese cultural troupes and Thai-Chinese cultural demonstrations. Notable artists, including Zhu Zhengting and popular Thai performers, will add to the celebrations.
In Hat Yai, the "Amazing Thailand Chinese New Year 2026" event will occur from February 17-20, 2026, featuring performances from Fujian Province, lion dances, and acrobatics. The nighttime light displays promise to create a festive atmosphere for attendees.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) projects a 10 percent increase in international tourists during the Chinese New Year period, with approximately 1.25 million visitors, including 241,000 from China. Domestic trips are also expected to rise by 3 percent, contributing to an overall increase in tourism revenue of 13 percent compared to the previous year.
