Bangkok: As the modern world of work changes faster than expected, the world of work may never be the same again. Following the 'EEC - GBA 2026' economic cooperation and industrial digitalization project held from May 11-15, it became clear that Thailand is entering a new era of economic connectivity, seriously linking with China's 'global technology hub.' The GBA, or Greater Bay Area, is a strategically important economic zone encompassing Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, developed into the 'Silicon Valley of Asia.' It encompasses two key cities: Guangzhou, a major center for trade, logistics, and automotive manufacturing, and Shenzhen, a global hub for AI, robotics, startups, and cutting-edge innovation.
According to Thai News Agency, this move doesn't just signify foreign investment; it reflects the rapidly changing "future of work for the younger generation." Data from the Thai-Chinese Rayong Industrial Estate indicates that many Chinese companies are currently interested in investing in Thailand, particularly in the automotive, auto parts, data center, medical equipment, and electrical appliance industries. As Chinese technology begins to connect with the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in Chonburi, Rayong, and Chachoengsao, a massive number of job and employment opportunities will follow.
The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) estimates that Thailand needs to develop more than 500,000 digital professionals to support the future growth of the technology industry. High-demand fields include AI, robotics, data centers, electric vehicles, engineering, science, and technology, particularly in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), which is a hub for global businesses from China and Japan. The key question, therefore, is not just "Are there jobs?" but "Is the Thai workforce ready?"
The skills demanded in the modern business world are not limited to language proficiency in Chinese, Japanese, or English. They also include digital skills, management, accounting, administration, human resources, skilled trades, knowledge of BOI (Board of Investment) regulations, and working with international companies. Modern organizations are looking for employees who can "communicate effectively, work efficiently, and solve problems." The business world is changing rapidly, and Thailand is fully integrating into the Asian economy. The crucial question is. are young people ready to upgrade themselves for the "jobs of the future"?
