Thailand Detains Myanmar Nationals for Suvarnabhumi Airport Drone Activity

Bangkok: Thai police have detained four Myanmar nationals and seized 10 drones following unauthorized flights near Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, officials said on Tuesday. Police raided a hotel in the Lat Krabang district, located near the kingdom’s main aviation hub.

According to Thai News Agency, the suspects informed investigators they were acting on orders from a coordinator in Myanmar. They were tasked with receiving the drones from a transport vehicle and smuggling them across the border for resale in Myanmar. The group had allegedly planned to dismantle the drones and transport them on commercial flights disguised as regular luggage.

The four suspects have had their visas revoked and are currently in custody pending further investigation. This action follows a warning issued by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) concerning suspicious drones near the airport. These drones resemble tactical models that have been used in foreign conflicts.

In a related enforcement effort, security units have confiscated more than 2,500 suspicious drones as part of a broader crackdown on unregistered and potentially hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Investigations are ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
