Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has officially refuted allegations made by Mr. Somchai Srisutthiyakorn concerning the appointment of Mr. Nattawut Wongniem to the 12th Sub-committee for Adjudication. The ECT states that the claims are inaccurate and do not align with the facts.

According to Thai News Agency, the controversy began when Mr. Somchai posted on his personal Facebook account, leading to media reports suggesting that the Election Commission had appointed an individual dismissed from government service to the sub-committee. The ECT clarified that Mr. Nattawut's name was included in error and that he was not involved in any activities of the committee.

The ECT explained that after a request for assistance from a civil servant was sent to the Office of the Attorney General, it was discovered on April 19, 2019, that Mr. Nattawut was no longer a public prosecutor. Consequently, another individual was appointed to the role. Notably, Mr. Nattawut was listed as a member for only 57 days and did not participate in or attend any meetings.

The ECT emphasized that Mr. Nattawut had no access to or knowledge of any case information within the investigation files of the office, countering claims that he had insight into ongoing investigations.
