Bangkok: Flood prevention measures for industrial estates nationwide have been upgraded to the highest level. The Minister of Industry has directed the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) to enhance its flood prevention strategies to the utmost capacity in response to the ongoing rainy season. This directive includes inspecting high-risk zones to brace for potential "rain bombs," implementing advanced water drainage systems, and expanding retention ponds. Furthermore, the Minister has mandated collaboration with the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) to tackle the El Ni±o phenomenon, projected to persist until 2027.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of Industry, has mandated the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) to escalate proactive flood prevention measures to the highest level to prepare for heavy rainfall and potential flooding in industrial regions and low-lying high-risk areas nationwide. This initiative targets key economic zones such as Chonburi, Rayong, and Chachoengsao, which host over 103,057 businesses with a combined registered capital exceeding 2.19 trillion baht. While the overall situation remains stable, the Minister has emphasized the importance of preparations and proactive risk analysis, especially in the face of severe accumulated rainfall-referred to as a "rain bomb," which involves more than 100 millimeters of rain over three consecutive hours-and high tides in low-lying areas like Samut Prakan province, as well as potential obstructions in public waterways.
