Bangkok: The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is intensifying its efforts to align doping control measures with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards. The initiative aims to bolster the integrity of Thai sports on the global stage.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, led the inaugural 2026 meeting of the Committee on the Control of Prohibited Drugs in Sports. The assembly included committee members and officials from the Sports Authority of Thailand, focusing on upgrading anti-doping protocols to international levels.
During the meeting, the committee assessed the advancement of anti-doping strategies, budget management for 2027, and funding requests from the National Sports Development Fund. Discussions also covered preparations for anti-doping control in international competitions and the restructuring of anti-doping agencies to ensure their operational independence, aligning with the World Anti-Doping Code and WADA standards.
Furthermore, the committee explored guidelines for anti-doping testing, emphasizing risk assessment principles to enhance testing efficiency, particularly in high-risk sports. The meeting concluded with the approval of appointing certified educators tasked with spreading awareness about anti-doping practices to athletes, sports personnel, and associated agencies across Thailand.
Mr. Surasak underscored the necessity of upgrading the anti-doping system to meet international standards. This move is crucial for instilling confidence in Thai sports, promoting transparent and fair competitions, and elevating Thailand's reputation and capabilities in the international sports arena.
