Thailand Explores Weibo to Boost Market Opportunities in China

Bangkok: The government spokesperson team discussed using Weibo, a digital media platform, to expand Thailand's opportunities in the Chinese market. Today, Mr. Ekkapop Pienpises, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, along with Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, welcomed executives from Weibo on their visit to Government House to discuss ways to leverage the potential of Chinese digital media and online platforms to promote Thailand. The aim is to build confidence in tourism, promote Thai culture and identity, and increase access for Thai products, services, and businesses in the Chinese market.

According to Thai News Agency, the discussion aims to leverage the potential of online media as a tool to support Thailand's interests in three key areas: tourism, culture, and trade, particularly in communicating directly with the Chinese public. The goal is to build a positive image and confidence in Thailand, stimulate travel by Chinese tourists, and transform perceptions of Thailand into tangible economic opportunities.

In the tourism sector, the government prioritizes building confidence in the Chinese market while simultaneously presenting new tourist attractions and experiences in Thailand that better match the interests of Chinese tourists. This is achieved through the development of digital content and the connection of content creator networks, helping to expand awareness from major tourist cities to potential destinations in various areas, thereby distributing tourism revenue to local communities.

In the cultural sector, the focus is on leveraging Thai cultural capital and identity in ways that reach modern Chinese consumers. This includes handicrafts, fashion, art, and cultural heritage, aiming to increase the value of Thailand's soft power and create widespread awareness of Thai culture. This will be achieved by connecting online communication with cultural activities and exchanges between Thailand and China.

On the economic and trade front, the discussions focused on increasing opportunities for Thai products and brands to reach Chinese consumers. This will be achieved by using digital communication to build awareness and trust in Thai products, before linking to online trade and sales channels. This will provide another avenue to support Thai entrepreneurs, especially those with strengths in culture, food, tourism, and lifestyle.

Furthermore, discussions were held on expanding cultural and communication activities in Thailand to create platforms for showcasing Thailand's potential and continuously connecting the tourism, cultural, and business sectors with Chinese consumers. This will ensure that Thailand's promotion extends beyond mere awareness, fostering travel, consumption of goods and services, and generating income for Thai entrepreneurs.

The government views Thai-Chinese relations in the digital age as having significant potential for further economic benefits and people-to-people ties. Increasing direct communication channels with the Chinese people will allow Thailand to present information and its strengths more effectively. It will also present opportunities to attract high-quality tourists, promote soft power, and open up markets for Thai products and services, thereby generating income and distributing opportunities to entrepreneurs and communities within the country.
