Thailand Faces Diplomatic Challenges in a Multipolar World

Bangkok: The world is no longer the same as international conflicts have intensified, creating a complex global landscape.

According to Thai News Agency, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchai Pakphasanwiwat has highlighted that the world has fully entered an era of "multipolar power," impacting medium and small-sized countries like Thailand.

Associate Professor Dr. Somchai explained that modern conflicts extend beyond military warfare to include economic, technological, energy, and international political warfare. The use of sanctions, trade barriers, and alliances has become central in the ongoing struggle for power.

In this multipolar context, superpowers such as the United States, China, and Russia aim to expand their influence, drawing various countries into the conflict. Countries with unclear stances or misjudgments may face significant economic and security costs in the long run.

For Thailand, the primary challenge lies in maintaining diplomatic balance and avoiding becoming a tool for any particular power. At the same time, strengthening internal aspects such as the economy, technology, and international bargaining power is essential.

Dr. Somchai emphasized that over-reliance on a single country could be a vulnerability in an uncertain world. Diversifying risks, building multifaceted cooperation, and understanding global power structures are crucial for long-term survival.

In conclusion, Dr. Somchai stated that countries can no longer remain "static" in a rapidly changing world. Conscious adaptation, strategic thinking, and decision-making based on national interests are vital for Thailand to navigate the turbulent global environment.
