Thailand Issues Urgent Alert Over PHP Security Vulnerability

Bangkok:Thailand is on high alert for potential website hijacking following the discovery of security vulnerabilities in PHP systems by OpenAI. Professor Dr. Yotsanan Wongswasdi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), has issued a warning about the threat posed by this vulnerability, which affects PHP, a language used in over 70% of websites globally.

According to Thai News Agency, OpenAI's research team identified the security flaw before any incidents occurred, allowing developers two months to release updates and prepare security measures. The vulnerability could be exploited to hijack websites, prompting concern among organizations in Thailand, particularly universities and medical schools that handle sensitive data.

To address the issue, organizations are advised to implement a three-step approach First, prepare by having IT teams check all PHP-based websites and systems, prioritizing those managing patient and student data. Second, mitigate risk by enabling additional security measures and monitoring for unusual access activity. Finally, fix the vulnerability by urgently upgrading PHP to the latest secure version.
