Thailand Prepares for Potential Impact of US-Iran Tensions

Bangkok:The National Security Council (NSC) is closely monitoring the escalating situation between the United States and Iran. Thailand's readiness to address all aspects of the conflict, including potential impacts on energy and the economy, has been affirmed by the council.

According to Thai News Agency, the Secretary-General of the National Security Council has confirmed that Thailand is prepared to handle the situation. This comes after several countries advised their citizens to stock up on essential supplies like food and water. The NSC is in discussions with relevant agencies and academics to develop response plans at various levels, anticipating impacts on energy and the economy.

General Chaiyapruk Duangprapat, Secretary-General of the NSC, stated that preparations are underway, emphasizing that readiness is crucial and not indicative of a crisis. He indicated that government agencies are gearing up to manage routine operations and respond to potential scenarios. The NSC plans to convene meetings with relevant stakeholders to discuss appropriate measures to address emerging situations.

Reports from abroad suggest a possible US attack on Iran, but General Chaiyapruk mentioned that current intelligence is based on troop movements and diplomatic activities. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence are prepared for worst-case scenarios, including the evacuation of Thai citizens if necessary.

Contingency plans for energy supplies have been in place since the crisis began. Further discussions are planned to address varying potential situations. Cyber threat readiness is also being managed by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and the NSC.

General Chaiyapruk acknowledged that a conflict between the US and Iran would impact Thailand’s energy sector. Preparations are in place for scenarios similar to past events, and the government is ready for broader economic implications. The Prime Minister has instructed the NSC to ensure all necessary arrangements are made.

The situation's potential escalation and duration remain uncertain as developments continue to unfold.
