Bangkok:The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) is ready to host the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings, dubbed the "Financial Olympics," from October 12-18, 2026. This event will bring over 15,000 policymakers, economists, and representatives from 191 countries to Thailand, aiming to shape the future of the global economy.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, emphasized that Thailand has prepared venues and infrastructure to the highest international standards. The preparations include technological advancements and digital innovations, combined with unique Thai cultural elements, to create a lasting impression and highlight Thailand's potential on the world stage.
The QSNCC has upgraded its management to international standards, featuring a Master Control Room and a live broadcasting system akin to those used in major events like the FIFA World Cup. Security measures are stringent, with collaboration from the Royal Thai Police, ensuring 24-hour coverage across 21 official hotels. A significant number of attendees have already registered, reflecting global trust in Thailand as a host.
Dr. Ekniti noted that the conference is expected to generate economic activity worth approximately 1,050 - 2,250 million baht. The event is also an opportunity to showcase Thailand's potential in digital infrastructure, clean energy, and investment incentives, particularly in industries like AI and electric vehicles.
Cultural showcases include decorations featuring 40 unique Thai fabric patterns and exhibitions of art created with natural materials. Attendees will also experience Thai culinary delights, such as "AM Brew" coffee and "Thai Tea by QSNCC," made from high-quality, locally sourced ingredients.
Dr. Vinit Visetsuwannapoom, Director of the Fiscal Policy Office, highlighted the commitment to a 'Green Meeting' concept, featuring 320 electric vehicles and comprehensive waste management strategies. The aim is to significantly reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability throughout the event.
The "Thailand Pavilion" will feature three main zones Digital Public Infrastructure, Climate Resilience, and Longevity, showcasing Thailand's advancements in these areas. A commemorative exhibition, "The Royal Legacy Empowering People, Building Resilience," will also be part of the event, reflecting Thailand's commitment to sustainable development and global cooperation.
