Geneva: Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow met with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk during his visit to Geneva to attend the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention). He took the opportunity to clarify Thailand’s position on the Thai-Cambodian border situation, emphasizing that Thailand is committed to the principles of peace. However, Cambodia lacks sincerity in resolving the issue and resorted to using anti-personnel mines, resulting in the deaths of seven Thai soldiers who stepped on mines and lost their legs. This violation of the Ottawa Convention and Cambodia’s implementation of the Joint Declaration (JD) is also a violation of the Joint Declaration (JD).
According to Thai News Agency, Sihasak met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and invited him to attend a meeting on the suppression of scams in Bangkok. He also explained the border situation and emphasized that Thailand is committed to peace
, but Cambodia has violated the Joint Declaration. Meanwhile, the 18 prisoners of war confirmed that the ICRC has continued to visit them and that it is in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Both sides welcomed the continued cooperation between Thailand and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), as well as Thailand’s constructive role as a member of the Human Rights Council (HRC), and exchanged views on human rights issues of importance to Thailand and OHCHR, such as the situation in Myanmar and addressing online fraud.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also invited the High Commissioner to attend the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams, held on December 17-18, 2025, in Bangkok.
