Thailand Secures MotoGP Hosting Rights for 2027-2031

Bangkok: The Cabinet has given the green light for Thailand to host the MotoGP motorcycle world championship from 2027 to 2031. This decision allows the nation to maintain its position as a key player in the global motorsport arena.

According to Thai News Agency, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, Ms. Ayrin Phanrit, announced that a budget framework of 3,997.86 million baht has been allocated for the event. The MotoGP World Championship is recognized as the world’s largest and fastest road racing motorcycle competition, drawing over 800 million viewers from 207 countries worldwide.

Thailand previously hosted the MotoGP from 2018 to 2025, an endeavor that enhanced the country’s reputation in sports management and underscored its capability to host large-scale international events. This effort positioned Thailand as a sports hub within the ASEAN region, promoting tourism and related industries, while generating an economic value of approximately 24.927 billion baht.

The country’s successful track record in organizing the races has had a positive impact on the economy, particularly by attracting tourists. Surveys indicated that each race attracted an average of 206,240 spectators, both Thai and international, boosting revenue across the accommodation, restaurant, travel, and tourism sectors. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is keen to build on this success, aiming to ensure sustained economic growth and further promotion of Thailand’s tourism industry by hosting the MotoGP World Championship for another five years.
