Bangkok: The Thai sports community gathered at the Rajamangala National Stadium for the final installment of the Meet the Press SEA Games series, where the Thai team set an ambitious target of securing 241 gold medals at the upcoming 2025 SEA Games.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Paitoon Chutimakornkul, President of the Sports Photographers Association of Thailand, led the press conference highlighting the determination and readiness of various sports associations. Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), acknowledged potential budgetary challenges, noting that the funds were only received in October. Despite these hurdles, Dr. Kongsak assured that preparations are on track, with an increase in prize money confirmed after discussions with the National Olympic Committee of Thailand.
Football coach “Coach Wang” Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul expressed confidence in the national men’s football team’s ability to clinch gold, aiming to break the title drought since 2017. Similarly, Miguel Rodrigo, head coach of the men’s futsal team, is determined to lead his squad to victory, with star player Muhammed Osmanmusa returning from Spain to bolster the team.
While the women’s futsal and football teams could not attend the event due to other commitments, they have set their sights on winning gold. The Football Association of Thailand has targeted four gold medals across these disciplines.
Narumon Siriwat, president of the Netball Association, shared her optimism about the team’s chances, with a strong mix of experienced and new players. Komol Chantrarak, president of the Cricket Association, aims for two golds in the women’s category, acknowledging a tough challenge against Malaysia for the men’s team.
In rowing, Captain Narapat Ta-in, deputy secretary-general of the Rowing Association, outlined the goal of winning 18 gold medals across five categories. Wiwatchai Rattanarat, vice president of the Bowling Association, is aiming for at least one gold in bowling competitions scheduled for mid-December.
Sanguan Kosawintha, president of the Archery Association, anticipates at least three golds from their athletes, drawing confidence from recent performances at the Asian Championships. Rawit Wataniyakun, manager of the shooting team, is also optimistic about securing three gold medals, led by seasoned athletes like Sawet Setthaporn and Issarapha Imprasertsuk.
The Rugby Football Association, led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Kulthan Prachuapmoh, is confident in securing two gold medals in rugby, expressing gratitude for the support in broadcasting and preparing the competition venue.
