Bangkok: Thailand’s Culture Ministry has officially begun preparations for the Royal Cremation Ceremony of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, who passed away on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, Culture Minister Sabida Thaiseth on Monday assigned the Fine Arts Department to oversee all aspects, including the design of the Royal Crematorium and the restoration of the Royal Chariots and Palanquins to ensure their readiness for the funeral procession. They held a meeting to review guidelines and work plans to ensure strict operational adherence to ancient royal traditions, befitting the dignity and honor of the beloved Mother of the Nation. The Ministry will seek formal royal advice at every step.
The Fine Arts Department’s Director General confirmed that work on the Royal Crematorium is underway, with the initial design draft currently being prepared for royal consultation. This design phase is expected to take two to three months. Following design approval and cost assessment, the department will request central government funds. The entire construction process, from start to finish, is forecast to be completed within one year.
