Bangkok:Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkaew expressed optimism about the upcoming IMF-World Bank 2026 conference in Thailand, emphasizing its potential benefits for the country. Nearly 400 world leaders and dignitaries, primarily finance ministers and central bank governors, are expected to attend the event.
According to the Thai News Agency, Sihasak highlighted that the conference will serve as a platform to build confidence in Thailand's economy and allow for discussions on its future direction. He noted that while this event is part of a series of regular conferences, it plays a crucial role in positioning Thailand on the global stage. He also underscored the importance of Thailand's participation in the United Nations for expressing its stance on global issues.
In addition, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul is set to visit Singapore on October 7th to engage with business leaders at the Forbes Global CEO forum. This event will gather 400 CEOs from around the world, providing another opportunity for Thailand to foster international business relations.
Addressing concerns about potential impacts from Thailand's flooding and airport management issues on the conference, Sihasak stated that while preparations are necessary, these issues should be viewed separately from the economic benefits of hosting such a significant event. He emphasized the importance of management and a long-term perspective in maintaining investment confidence.
Police General Samran Nuanma, Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, assured that security measures for the attending leaders are in place, with no current incidents of concern. He confirmed that intelligence gathering efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety and success of the conference.
