Bangkok: Thailand is gearing up to host the "Track Asia Cup 2026," an international track cycling competition that will feature 38 teams from 21 countries. The Cycling Association of Thailand has officially announced its readiness to host the event from August 28-30, 2026, at the Huamark Velodrome. The competition is recognized as a Class 1 event in the International Cycling Federation (UCI) calendar, offering participants the opportunity to earn world ranking points and qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games.
According to Thai News Agency, the event will bring together national and club teams, representing 21 countries, with over 1,000 athletes and officials expected to participate. It is poised to be the largest event of its kind ever hosted in Thailand, promising significant contributions to the country's economic and tourism sectors.
The Thai national cycling team, led by notable cyclists Jutathip Maneephan, Jai Angsuthasawit, Norasetthada Boonma, and Yuenyong Petcharat, will use the competition as a preparatory platform for the 2026 Asian Games. The team will return from their training camp in China to compete and test their skills against international opponents before heading to Nagoya, Japan, for the final phase of their Asian Games training.
General Decha Hemkrasri, known as "General Ink," has expressed optimism about the potential success of Thailand's men's sprint team, which is currently among the top teams in Asia. He has invited cycling enthusiasts to attend the event at the Huamark Velodrome free of charge and mentioned that the competition will also be broadcast live online through the Cycling Association of Thailand's channels.
