Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister to Lead Talks on Elephant Welfare in Sri Lanka

Bangkok: Thailand is planning a visit to Sri Lanka to discuss collaboration on the care of Thai elephants living abroad. Deputy Prime Minister Suchart is set to lead the delegation.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Suchart will engage in discussions focused on natural resources and environmental cooperation. He will be accompanied by a team of Thai veterinarians tasked with assessing the health and welfare of two elephants that Thailand donated to Sri Lanka many years ago. These elephants were originally sent to participate in the Buddha’s relics procession. The plan is to return them to Thailand so they can spend their remaining years in their native land.
