Bangkok:Economic indicators in Thailand are exhibiting encouraging signs, as reported by Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. These indicators include advancements in exports, imports, and the nation's credit rating. Anutin anticipates a GDP increase in the third quarter, pending final figures from the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC). He highlighted the potential economic impact of hosting the IMF-World Bank 2026 summit, which will attract financial leaders from over 191 countries, boosting the economy in the final quarter. Anutin also mentioned a forthcoming meeting involving the acting CEO of Thai Airways and officials.
According to Thai News Agency, the government is actively implementing economic stimulus measures as the year draws to a close. Positive trends are evident in several economic indicators, including rising export values and Thailand's stable and positive credit rating from Moody's, S&P Global Ratings, and Fitch Ratings. Import values have also improved, showing a positive trend in the recently concluded third quarter, although all indicators await finalization by the NESDC in the coming weeks.
Thailand is set to host the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund next week. This event will bring together financial leaders from over 191 countries, including national leaders, finance ministers, and central bank governors. Anutin expressed confidence that the meeting will positively impact Thailand's economy, forecasting a favorable trend in the last quarter of 2026.
Regarding economic measures, Anutin indicated that any additional actions needed to stimulate the economy in the final quarter will depend on situational needs, with the government prepared to implement necessary measures.
Additionally, Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, is scheduled to meet with various agencies to prepare for the upcoming global summit. This afternoon, Mr. Ekniti will introduce Mr. Samrit Samniang, Acting CEO of Thai Airways International, to Anutin, where they will discuss the airline's ongoing recovery and financial improvements. Anutin emphasized that while Thai Airways is an independent entity, the government remains available to offer guidance and address any queries. As the Ministry of Finance is the largest shareholder, any policy implementation must be channeled through it, as the government cannot issue direct orders to Thai Airways.
