Accompanied by the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Probation, Thaksin also took time to embrace Red Shirt supporters who had awaited his arrival since morning. When questioned about his absence over the last 17 days since his parole began, he remarked, "As an old man, today is considered a formality."
According to Thai News Agency, Thaksin Shinawatra, a former Prime Minister and convicted prisoner at Klong Prem Central Prison, completed two-thirds of his one-year sentence on May 11, 2026. This completion made him eligible for parole with a conditional extension to wear an Electronic Monitoring (EM) bracelet until his full release on September 9, 2026. His family, supporters from the Red Shirt movement, and key leaders of the Pheu Thai Party were present to greet him as he exited the prison. Thaksin, warmly engaging with the crowd, participated in singing the Thai national anthem before departing in a private vehicle, a Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e, to receive the terms of his probation at the Bangkok Probation Office.
On May 28, 2026, reporters at the Bangkok Probation Office 1 observed Thaksin arriving in his private car, adhering to the rescheduled reporting date. Dressed in a white short-sleeved shirt and dark blue jeans, Thaksin appeared in good spirits, greeting the media with a wai. His lawyer, Mr. Winyat Chatmontri, accompanied him as he proceeded to meet with probation officers. Despite the EM bracelet on his left ankle, Thaksin assured reporters of his good health, stating, "Good, nothing's wrong," before heading inside to report.
After completing his report, Thaksin engaged with Red Shirt supporters, expressing gratitude for their presence. In response to inquiries about the day's proceedings, he maintained that nothing noteworthy occurred, emphasizing the procedural nature of the visit: "It was as old people would do," he stated, before departing in his vehicle.
