Thaksin’s Family Visits Him in Prison Amid Health Concerns

Bangkok: Daughter and son-in-law visit Thaksin, revealing that he complained of numb fingers. One month has passed since Thaksin’s stay in prison. “Aem” along with her husband and Ing’s husband visited. It was revealed that “Thaksin” complained of numbness in his fingers.

According to Thai News Agency, following the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions’ decision on September 9th to extradite former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to a one-year prison sentence, today marks one month since he was detained at Klong Prem Central Prison. The atmosphere in front of the prison and the family visitation center is open for visits by the Shinawatra family every Monday and Thursday.

At 9:00 a.m. today, Pinthongtha Shinawatra Kunakornwong, or Aim, daughter of Thaksin Shinawatra, arrived with her husband, Natthaphong Kunakornwong, and Pitak Suksawat, husband of Paethongtarn. However, Paethongtarn Shinawatra, or Ing, the former prime minister, did not accompany her. The three of them walked with their hands clasped in a wai, approaching a group of red shirts, who were Thaksin’s classmates at Montfort College in Chiang Mai. They were waiting to offer their support and pray for Thaksin’s speedy release.

After visiting for nearly an hour, Ms. Pinthongtha said her father’s mental health was good and he was still strong. She also noted her father had some numbness in his fingers. Her husband, Em, confirmed Thaksin’s mental strength and spirits but also mentioned the issue with numb fingers. Regarding the visit of classmates from Montfort College in Chiang Mai, she informed her father, who sent his thanks.

When reporters asked if the supporters teasing him as the next prime minister were still interested, Ms. Pinthongtha and Mr. Natthaphong smiled but did not answer. They instead took a photo with the Red Shirts from Sisaket who had arrived. The Red Shirts also announced that on Sunday, October 19, they would gather with Red Shirts from all 50 districts in Bangkok to hold activities to support Thaksin, who had completed his first month in prison.

Ms. Pinthongtha refused to answer questions about Mr. Thaksin’s request for a royal pardon and immediately left the prison in her personal vehicle.
