Thaksin’s Influence Evident in Coalition Party’s Dinner Appearance

Bangkok: “Icecream” commented on the presence of Thaksin Shinawatra at the coalition party’s dinner, stating that his involvement was unsurprising and evident to all. The remark highlighted Thaksin’s influence behind the government, suggesting that any failure of the administration would reflect on his ideas and strategies, while leaving open the question of whether any opposition (“the singer”) would react.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Parit Wacharasindhu, a member of parliament for the party list and spokesperson for the Prachachon Party, confirmed the rumors of Thaksin Shinawatra, the former prime minister, attending the coalition parties’ dinner. This event marked the coalition’s first dinner since certain parties withdrew, and questions lingered about whether it would be the last, given the challenges in maintaining control of parliamentary votes.

The potential confirmation of Thaksin’s attendance was not crucial, as it was widely acknowledged that he had been a significant influence over the government for the past two years, guiding policy and offering advice. The dinner served as a symbolic gesture, reinforcing the perception of Thaksin’s control over government outcomes. Public perception tied the government’s potential failures in addressing economic, corruption, and inequality issues directly to Thaksin’s guidance.

Regarding the appropriateness of Thaksin’s involvement, Mr. Parit noted that it depended on the coalition government’s decision to invite him. From the public’s viewpoint, it underscored the ineffectiveness of revisiting past public speaking strategies that had historically failed to resolve public issues effectively.

When questioned about the possibility of legal challenges related to party dominance, Mr. Parit suggested that it would depend on potential complaints being filed. Nonetheless, he emphasized the known political reality that Thaksin played a crucial role in steering the government’s direction.
