Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul has assured the public that Thaksin Shinawatra's release from prison does not equate to any influence over the government, emphasizing that the citizens remain the ultimate decision-makers in the country's political landscape. He stated that if Thaksin genuinely intends to retire from politics, he must respect the people's decision.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul responded to questions regarding whether he had met with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra after his royal pardon. Anutin clarified that they had not yet met or spoken. He expressed his congratulations to Thaksin, conveying positive sentiments and noting that the process was unfolding as per the established procedures. He also mentioned that the removal of Thaksin's EM bracelet was in line with these procedures.
Anutin highlighted that he had already engaged in discussions with Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, Minister of Labour and leader of the Pheu Thai Party, and Mr. Yotsanun Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister, concerning the coalition government's operations. When questioned about Thaksin's potential retirement from politics, Anutin, drawing from his experience as a minister under Thaksin, expressed confidence in Thaksin's intentions.
Addressing concerns about Thaksin Shinawatra's potential influence over cabinet decisions and the coalition government, Anutin reiterated his lack of concern. He stressed that the government is guided by the will of the people and that there is no reason to fear undue influence. Regarding the Bhumjaithai Party's withdrawal from the Pheu Thai Party's constitutional amendment draft, Anutin assured that discussions were conducted amicably, with no ensuing problems.
