Bangkok: “Thammanat” accepts criticism regarding the hosting of the 2025 SEA Games, acknowledging it as a lesson learned while expressing satisfaction that nine ASEAN countries praised the warm welcome.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Captain Thamanat Phromphao, addressed the recent SEA Games, mentioning his directive to Minister of Tourism and Sports, Attakorn Sirilatthayakon, to review past experiences for future improvements. He highlighted that the closing ceremony served as a celebration of the numerous gold medals won by Thai athletes. Captain Thamanat, who also leads the Aquatic Sports Association of Thailand, proudly noted that the association secured 11 gold medals, marking a significant accomplishment.
Captain Thamanat acknowledged that criticism is inevitable for those who weren’t involved in the event’s organization, but he commended the efforts of those who participated. He emphasized the importance of accepting and learning from mistakes, whether individual or collective, and expressed gratitude for the feedback received. In his role as Deputy Prime Minister overseeing the SEA Games and Chairman of the Sports Authority of Thailand, he affirmed his commitment to addressing any shortcomings and striving for excellence.
Regarding Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul’s perfect score of 10 for the SEA Games, Captain Thamanat explained that each sports association was tasked with preparing within their budgetary constraints. He observed the atmosphere in the 10 neighboring countries, despite one country’s withdrawal, and expressed happiness and appreciation for Thailand’s efforts in hosting and welcoming international visitors. He noted that ambassadors from several countries reached out to thank him, but he remains open to constructive criticism from Thai citizens to drive further improvements.
