Bangkok: Captain Thamanat Phromphao, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, has suggested that the Kla Tham Party may consider nominating a candidate for prime minister. He addressed the party's decision to abstain from the recent vote for the Speaker of the House, citing a lack of suitable candidates as the reason for abstention.

According to Thai News Agency, Captain Thamanat presided over the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Department of Rice, where he emphasized the Ministry of Agriculture's commitment to tackling agricultural challenges, particularly during times of global unrest. He underscored the necessity for the government to address immediate agricultural issues and prepare for economic fluctuations that could affect farmers.

Captain Thamanat also mentioned his ability to continue advocating for agricultural policies through legislative channels, working alongside the executive branch to provide sustained support for farmers. He clarified that the Kla Tham Party's abstention from the Speaker vote was not an attack on any individual but rather a reflection of the party's principles and collective decision-making process.

When questioned about the possibility of Kla Tham nominating a prime minister candidate, Captain Thamanat responded with uncertainty, indicating that a decision would be made following further discussions within the party. He also addressed his relationship with Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, affirming that while friendship remains important, it is separate from political decisions.

Captain Thamanat concluded by stating his commitment to his ministerial duties, mentioning that he has begun packing his belongings at Government House, though not yet at the Ministry of Agriculture. In response to a playful inquiry about a potential return, he remarked on the media's tendency to seek controversy.
