Ratchaburi: Thanakhon Wangboonkongchana, the Minister of Industry, has expressed strong support for the development of Thailand's defense industry, highlighting its significant potential for competing and growing sustainably in the global market. On January 7, 2026, Wangboonkongchana, accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Industry, visited NARAC ARMS INDUSTRY Co., Ltd., a factory located in Ratchaburi Province. This factory specializes in manufacturing ammunition components and complete ammunition sets, having earned the international ISO 9001:20 certification.
According to Thai News Agency, Minister Tanakorn emphasized that Thai manufacturers in the defense sector possess substantial potential to compete on an international level. The Ministry of Industry is committed to enhancing competitiveness and fostering opportunities within the defense industry, thus enabling the private sector to operate securely and thrive in the global market. Tanakorn noted that from 2022 to 2024, the global trade of small arms (SALW) is anticipated to rise by 10-21%, contingent on the global security landscape. Concurrently, Thailand's export of SALW weapons from 2022 to 2025 is projected to achieve an average annual export value exceeding 5,680 million baht, indicating robust growth within the industry.
During the visit, Tanakorn remarked that the enterprises they explored were exemplary models of capable and evolving defense industry developers, equipping them to compete globally. He further stated that the current state of this industry mirrors the nation's security and defense capabilities.
General Wattana Narakham, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NARAC ARMS INDUSTRY Co., Ltd., disclosed the company's origins as a manufacturer of metal and plastic molds and automotive parts in Samut Prakan Province. After engaging in a research and development endeavor for 105 mm artillery shell casings with the Lopburi Weapons Manufacturing Command, the company developed an interest in the defense sector. With official approval from the Ministry of Defence, the company established a factory for the production, assembly, and repair of weapons and relocated its production base to Ban Pong District, Ratchaburi Province. Presently, the company produces a range of military equipment, including 37 mm anti-aircraft gun shell casings (Type 74 and Type 76), .45 inch ACP cartridge casings and projectiles, 105 mm artillery shell casings, 12 gauge shotgun shells, and all authorized calibers of handgun ammunition. These products, which comply with international standards ISO 9001:2008, aim to reduce imports and bolste r national security.
