Bangkok: “Thawee” has clarified the Prachachat Party’s recent Facebook post concerning their opposition to the Entertainment Complex Act, attributing it to the opinions of certain MPs within the party and noting its potential conflict with religious principles. He has requested a discussion within the party and refrained from stating the party’s official position.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice and leader of the Prachachat Party, addressed the controversy surrounding the party’s Facebook post, which declared a stance against the Entertainment Complex Business Act. He suggested that the post might reflect the views of some party members, as the legislation has yet to be enacted. Thawee highlighted that while the act is part of the government’s policy statement, aspects like gambling conflict with Muslim religious beliefs-a sentiment not discussed in the party meeting. He emphasized that while the government may accept the act in principle, objections may arise, particularly regarding casinos, due to religious concerns and the party’s voter base in the southern border provinces.
Pol. Col. Thawee further clarified the situation regarding the Facebook post, which prominently featured the party’s logo, by consulting the party secretary. It was determined that the post represented the views of some staff members who might have inquired about the casino aspect with party MPs, although the act in question pertains to the broader Entertainment Business Act. Thawee expressed a desire to review the matter further.
In response to queries about the party’s official stance, Pol. Col. Thawee stated that MPs have the right to vote according to their beliefs, but the party needs to establish a clear direction and continue internal discussions. When pressed further on the party’s direction, Thawee dismissed the inquiry as a hypothetical scenario meant to provoke conflict.
