The Bangkok governor visited Makkasan Pond to investigate the incident of fish being knocked out of water.

Bangkok, The Bangkok governor visited Makkasan Pond to inspect the incident of fish being knocked out of water and to monitor the spread of the black-chinned tilapia. Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, visited the Makkasan pond in Ratchathewi district, where there was a large number of fish that died from shock. The Governor of Bangkok said that this morning he visited the Makkasan pond, located on Chaturathit Road, which connects Ratchaprarop and Asoke, where the incident of fish dying from water occurred. He asked a person who went fishing in that area, who sped from Ayutthaya with his trusty crossbow after hearing the news, and learned that most of the fish that died from water were Nile tilapia, but there were also black-chinned tilapia. Regarding water, we asked the Drainage and Sewerage Office, which reported that they are currently draining water to prepare for rainwater, which has caused the water level to drop and may cause fish to lack oxygen and go into shock. Fish may also be waiting for air in the tunnels with treated water from the water treatment center, which has more oxygen. Makkasan Pond connects to Khlong Samsen and flows into the Chao Phraya River. The other side connects to Khlong Saen Saep and flows into Khlong Tan. There is a drainage tunnel that drains water to the tunnel at Chong Nonsi. At this point, there is considerable concern if the black-chinned tilapia spreads to this area in large numbers. The official added that yesterday they had been performing maintenance on the water treatment machine from 3:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., which caused low oxygen levels in the water and caused the fish to die of lack of oxygen. Now that the machine is back in service, it is expected that the situation will improve. However, the cause must be investigated again, including the water quality and the black-chinned tilapia. If the black-chinned tilapia spreads in this area, will it spread to other areas, such as the Chao Phraya River, Khlong Samsen, Khlong Saen Saep, and Khlong Tan? The situa tion will be closely monitored. Source: Thai News Agency
