The House of Representatives accepts the principle of amending the law on child punishment.

Parliament, The House of Representatives accepted the draft bill amending the Civil and Commercial Code, which stipulates the rights of those exercising parental authority to punish children. They must not abuse, harm their bodies or minds. Reporters reported that the House of Representatives meeting today (July 24) considered the draft bill to amend the Civil and Commercial Code (No. ..) B.E. ... proposed by Mr. Nattawut Buaprathum, MP for the Move Forward Party and his team, which is an amendment to the Civil and Commercial Code to determine the rights of those exercising parental authority to punish children. It must not be an act of cruelty or physical or mental harm. Mr. Nattawut said that the current Civil and Commercial Code, which stipulates the rights of those exercising parental authority to punish their children appropriately in order to teach them, has been enforced for a long time. It was found that in many cases, punishments turn into acts of abuse or harm, affecting the child's body or mind. He emphasized that physical and mental abuse of children leads to fear, anxiety, physical illness and depression, leading to anti-social behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to review the intention of whether punishments for warnings must involve whipping or other methods that may affect the child's physical and mental health, in order to reaffirm that Thailand truly protects all children. After the debate on the principles and reasons was completed, the House of Representatives voted to accept the principles with 400 votes, no votes against, and set up a 42-person committee to study and determine the amendment within 15 days.
