Bangkok: Thepthai Senpong, a noted political observer, has voiced concerns over the recent withdrawal of support by the Bhumjaithai and Kla Tham parties from Pheu Thai's constitutional amendment draft, labeling it as a strategic political maneuver.
According to Thai News Agency, Thepthai's insights were shared through his Facebook page, "Thepthai - Political Talk," where he highlighted the perceived political gamesmanship among the Bhumjaithai, Kla Tham, and Pheu Thai parties. Thepthai emphasized that this withdrawal reflects deep-seated strategic maneuvering and poses several questions that reveal potential cracks within the government.
In a recent development, the Bhumjaithai Party resolved to have its MPs retract their signatures from the Pheu Thai Party's constitutional amendment draft. This decision was mirrored by the Kla Tham Party, which expressed concerns that certain provisions of the draft, particularly those related to the establishment of a Constitutional Drafting Assembly, might conflict with the Constitutional Court's ruling No. 18/2568. To avoid future legal entanglements, the Kla Tham Party has instructed its MPs to withdraw their support for the Pheu Thai draft.
Thepthai posed five critical questions in light of these events. Firstly, he questioned whether both the Bhumjaithai and Kla Tham parties had thoroughly reviewed the details of the draft before initially signing it, given their subsequent realization of potential conflicts with the Constitutional Court's ruling.
Secondly, he queried whether the similar decisions by both parties were a result of prior discussions or preparations, and why their opinions were so aligned. This raised suspicions about coordinated political strategies behind the scenes.
Thirdly, Thepthai questioned the thoroughness of the Pheu Thai Party's legal team in reviewing their draft amendment to ensure compliance with the Constitutional Court's ruling. He implied that a lack of due diligence could have led to the current political fallout.
Fourthly, Thepthai speculated whether a revised draft amendment by the Pheu Thai Party, rectifying the current issues, would regain the support of the Bhumjaithai and Kla Tham MPs.
Lastly, he pondered the potential for the Pheu Thai Party to withdraw from the government coalition, especially given the political damage and loss of credibility they have suffered. The Kla Tham Party's readiness to step in as a replacement, should Pheu Thai choose to exit the coalition, was also noted as a strategic consideration.
Thepthai urged political observers and the public to closely monitor the unfolding political strategies and maneuvering among the involved parties, which could significantly impact the political landscape.
