Samut sakhon: A thief who stole 23 baht weight of gold, valued at over 1.6 million baht, from a well-known shopping mall in Samut Sakhon has been apprehended in Nan Province. The suspect, who disguised himself in a delivery rider outfit, was captured following an extensive police investigation.

According to Thai News Agency, CCTV footage captured on May 1st at 7:40 PM shows the male suspect, approximately 170 centimeters tall, wearing a rider's jacket and a balaclava, carrying an automatic pistol. He targeted the Yaowarat Bangkok gold shop located in the Mueang District shopping mall, jumping over the glass display case to seize the gold jewelry. He then fled the scene on a motorcycle with the stolen goods, which weighed a total of 23 baht and were valued at approximately 1,610,000 baht.

Police investigators from Region 7 recently managed to arrest the suspect and his accomplice, a former convict who aided in his escape, in Nan Province. Pol. Maj. Gen. Teeradet Athiphakkul, Commander of Samut Sakhon Provincial Police, stated that the suspects are being transported back to Samut Sakhon for further proceedings. The details of the investigation are currently undisclosed, but a reenactment of the crime is planned due to the seriousness of the offense.

The same gold shop was previously robbed two years ago by a perpetrator also dressed as a motorcycle rider, who made off with 15 baht weight of gold. Authorities are investigating potential connections between the two incidents, with further developments expected as the investigation continues.
