Muak lek: The ultimate celebration of Tiger Release Day in 2015 saw over 30,000 people flock to the event, a truly memorable experience. It unfolded amidst the first cold winds in the mountains and forests at the Phurithat Scout Camp, Muak Lek District, Saraburi Province.
According to Thai News Agency, the event, dubbed “Tiger Release Day Year 5, Episode: Let’s have fun,” was a music festival styled as the largest scout camp and marked the first Thai music festival in full eco-friendly style. Organized by HEAVY ORGANIZER, known for hosting eclectic music festivals, the event was certified as GREEN HEAVY by the Climate Action Forum (CAF) under the United Nations. Led by Mr. Burinthorn Sae Lo, or “Heng Kot Indie,” the festival spanned two days, featuring five stages and over 82 artists from diverse genres, including BODYSLAM, THREE MAN DOWN, TAITOSMITH, INK WARUNTORN, and many more.
The atmosphere was filled with fun and camaraderie as Tiger fans, music enthusiasts, and party-goers arrived in droves. With more than 30,000 attendees, the 720-rai event area bustled with activity. Beyond the performances, participants engaged in eco-friendly initiatives, such as the Carbon Footprint Challenge, waste separation, and creating souvenirs from recycled materials. The Tiger Dance Stage, powered entirely by solar energy, added a unique touch to the festival’s sustainability efforts. Participants could earn points from these activities, redeemable for tickets to future events.
Additionally, the organizers facilitated eco-friendly transportation for staff via electric motorcycles and provided food and beverage services through electric tuk-tuks, further reducing the event’s carbon footprint. The festival’s success was bolstered by cooperation from local government agencies and a warm reception from local residents, who assisted tourists visiting the event. The 5th Tiger Release Day set a new benchmark for Thai music festivals, demonstrating that entertainment and sustainability can go hand in hand. All waste from the event was sorted and recycled, with benefits returned to society and the local community.
