Bangkok: The world's top five female golfers are set to take center stage at the AIG Women's Open, the final major tournament of the year, held at the historic Royal Lytham and St Annes in England. The tournament, taking place from July 30th to August 2nd, features a prize pool of US$10 million, attracting a diverse field of 144 elite female golfers, including seven Thai contenders. According to Thai News Agency, this marks the 50th edition of the AIG Women's Open and its sixth occurrence at Royal Lytham and St Annes. Leading the charge are the world's top-ranked players, including Nelly Korda from the USA, current world number one, and Thailand's own Gino-Attaya Thitikul, ranked second. South Korea's Kim Hyo-joo and England's Lottie Woade, favorites among local fans, round out the top contenders. The Thai contingent is further strengthened by Ariya Jutanugarn, a former champion of the AIG Women's Open in 2016, and Pajaree Anannarukan, who recently secured a third-place finish at the Women's Scottish Open . Anchisa Utama, Papangkorn Dhawatchanakit, Chanettee Wannasen, and Apichaya Yubol complete the lineup representing Thailand. Lottie Woade, the young English star who recently clinched her first professional title at the Women's Scottish Open, expressed her enthusiasm for playing on one of her preferred courses, emphasizing the unique challenges and excitement posed by links golf. She highlighted the importance of adapting to wind conditions and the historical significance of competing at Royal Lytham and St Annes. On the other hand, Pro Jan-Anchisa Utama, making her debut in a major tournament, shared her excitement about competing against world-class golfers. Japanese golfer Miyu Yamashita, ranked sixth in the world, is prepared to defend her title following her victory at last year's AIG Women's Open. Pajaree Anannarukan, another prominent Thai golfer, aims to improve on her st rong performance from last year, where she finished tied for 13th place.
