Bangkok: Almost 24 hours have passed but the fire is still not under control. A fire broke out at a furniture factory on Soi Chalong Krung 5. Prepare to evacuate residents immediately after several toxic gases were detected.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Wanthanee Wattana, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, has been on-site monitoring the ongoing fire situation since 4:00 PM yesterday. Machinery is being deployed to open the factory walls to facilitate the transport of water to extinguish the fires, which continue to blaze in three out of the four factory buildings. The fire is currently about 20% contained, with heavy flames and black smoke still present.
In response to concerns about the spread of toxins in the event of rain, foam has been prepared by the Department of Industrial Works. Air quality inspections have revealed the presence of several toxic gases and PM 2.5, necessitating an immediate evacuation of residents within a 300-meter radius. The evacuation center initially set up at Lamphong School has been relocated to Wat Suthaphochon School on Chalongkrung 8, due to hazardous air quality levels near the factory. Residents are advised to use N95 masks as general surgical masks are inadequate.
Reports indicate that 300 tons of plastic pellets have been consumed by the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Lat Krabang District Office has declared a disaster zone within a 300-meter radius of the fire site.
