Tragic Drowning Incident in Yasothon: Two Children Lose Lives in Rice Field Pond

Yasothon: Heartbroken parents wept uncontrollably as two of their children drowned in a flooded rice field, with one child surviving. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon at a pond in a rice field at the end of Ban Charoenphol, Moo 13, Sam Yaek Subdistrict, Loeng Nok Tha District, Yasothon Province. Police from Loeng Nok Tha Police Station, along with rescue workers and divers, investigated and searched for the bodies of 7-year-old Thanawat and 9-year-old Phichitphon, who died at the bottom of the pond. The search lasted approximately 20 minutes. The incident site was a flooded rice field with water about 50 centimeters deep, adjacent to a pond that was 3-4 meters deep.

According to Thai News Agency, 11-year-old Suwicha, a friend who was swimming with the deceased children, recounted that they were playing in the water with four other children before the incident. They were unaware that there was a deep pool connected to a flooded rice paddy, so they ran around until they all fell into the deep part at the same time. He tried to help and managed to pull one friend, an 8-year-old, out of the water, but he couldn't save the other two. Both drowned immediately. He then ran to inform adults for help. The parents of the deceased children did not question the cause of death and therefore the bodies were released to their relatives for religious ceremonies.
