Bangkok: Signs of colder weather are becoming clear in Thailand as Tropical Storm Matmo influences climatic conditions without directly hitting the country.
According to Thai News Agency, the storm has moved into the upper South China Sea and is heading towards Hainan Island. It is anticipated to make landfall in southern China or northern Vietnam and could intensify into a typhoon before weakening.
Mr. Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Meteorological Department’s Weather Forecasting Division, reported that Thailand is in a transitional phase from the rainy season to winter. Between October 4th and 18th, the country will experience unstable weather, including shifting winds and uneven rainfall. The storm’s weakening into a low-pressure area will result in increased cloud cover and light to moderate rain in the northern and upper northeastern regions of Thailand from October 6-7.
From October 8 onwards, shifts in wind direction due to cold air masses from China will become evident. This change is a significant indicator of the seasonal transition, although uncertainty in wind patterns persists. Some areas will experience alternating rain, cool mornings, and hot afternoons.
By October 14th, the transition to winter will become more apparent, especially in the North and upper Northeast, with reduced rainfall and cooler morning temperatures. However, an official declaration of winter will depend on consistent temperature drops, persistent wind shifts, and reduced rainfall, which the Meteorological Department will assess before making an announcement.
The public is advised to stay updated with warnings from the Meteorological Department for any changes in weather conditions.
