Bangkok: A group of transport operators staged a protest, expressing distrust in the government's fuel management and demanding a swift resolution to the problem. They fear that vehicles will run out of fuel on the road nationwide, leading to increased costs for their goods.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Siripop Pichairattanapong, Secretary-General of the Federation of Thai Transport Associations, stated that the reason the transport operators' group organized this protest was to highlight problems and urge the government to urgently resolve them. They lack confidence in the government's management, despite the announcement that there were sufficient fuel reserves for 60-90 days, as is currently the case. Furthermore, even a small increase in fuel prices should have clear justifications and explanations. The government should fully utilize available resources such as the fuel fund, marketing costs, refining margins, and excise taxes before considering price adjustments. He also noted the rapid increase in fuel prices at depots within a few days without clear explanation, leading the transport sector to question transparency and determine who benefits from the increase.
Mr. Siripop also expressed concern that if the situation does not improve, there could be a nationwide problem of fuel trucks running out of fuel along the way, which would lead to higher overall product costs due to market mechanisms.
