Truck Power Protesters Rally at Laem Chabang to Demand Government Action on Fuel Crisis

Laem chabang: A nationwide network of over 200 trucks, under the TRUCK POWER initiative, has gathered at Laem Chabang to urge the government to urgently address the fuel crisis and traffic congestion at the port, fearing negative impacts on transportation costs and the overall economy.

According to Thai News Agency, the protest unfolded at 9:00 AM in front of Big Food Market, next to the PTT gas station on Sukhumvit Road in Laem Chabang, Chonburi Province. Freight transport operators and truck networks from across the country convened to demand that the government urgently address the hardships faced by transport operators.

The gathering involved approximately 200 trucks, divided into two distinct groups. The first group consisted of vehicles parked together at designated points, demonstrating symbolic solidarity. Most participants belonged to transportation associations nationwide.

The second group comprised a mobile convoy of approximately 40-60 vehicles, organized in collaboration between the Laem Chabang Transport Association and the Eastern Transport Association (Rayong). The convoy embarked from Nong Khwae area, followed the rural highway, and maneuvered through key landmarks before regrouping at the traffic light in front of the Thai Oil refinery.

Protesters expressed concerns about the crisis of rising oil prices and the accumulated traffic congestion in the Laem Chabang port area. These challenges have led to significantly increased transportation costs, adversely affecting business operations.

The demonstration saw protesters calling on the government and relevant agencies to urgently implement assistance measures. These include controlling energy prices, managing port area traffic, and exploring ways to reduce business costs, all to prevent further escalation of the problem and its potential impact on the logistics system and the national economy.

The protest proceeded in an orderly manner, with officials closely coordinating to ensure security and facilitate traffic in the area.
