Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump engaged in a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, addressing a spectrum of critical issues, including trade dynamics and geopolitical tensions. Trump described the interaction as very positive, highlighting an agreement where China may increase its purchase of U.S. soybeans from 12 million tons to 20 million tons. Emphasizing their strong rapport, Trump noted the mutual recognition of the importance of maintaining a beneficial relationship.

According to Thai News Agency, the discussions extended beyond agricultural trade to cover matters involving Iran, the ongoing Russo-Ukraine conflict, aircraft engines, as well as oil and gas transactions. In light of recent developments, China is expected to adhere to U.S. conditions when purchasing oil from Venezuela, following the U.S. arrest of former Venezuelan President Nicol¡s Maduro.

Chinese state social media underscored President Xi's commitment to fostering China-U.S. relations, expressing hope for conflict resolution. However, Chinese state media emphasized Xi's firm stance on Taiwan, cautioning against U.S. arms sales to the island. President Trump reassured adherence to the One China policy, as the conversation preceded his upcoming visit to China in April.

In response to these discussions, Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te affirmed the robust relationship between Taiwan and the U.S., noting ongoing communication and unchanged cooperation projects. He reiterated the U.S. commitment to Taiwan and maintained that Taiwan is not part of China.
