Bangkok: U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a special edition U.S. passport that features his own photograph as part of the celebration for the 250th anniversary of the United States' Declaration of Independence, known as America250.
According to Thai News Agency, the preview image of the passport displays Trump in a serious pose, leaning against a desk in a photograph taken by White House photographer Daniel Trooc. Trump's signature appears below the image, set against a backdrop of quotes from the Declaration of Independence. In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced that the passport will include the phrase "Welcome, but be good!"
This initiative marks the first time a sitting U.S. president's photograph will appear on official travel documents for American citizens. An illustration of the nation's founders signing the Declaration of Independence in 1776 will be displayed on the opposite page, accompanied by the inscription "United States of America 250." The back cover will feature the American flag from 1777 with the number "250" encircled by 13 stars. The White House has branded this passport version the "PATRIOT PASSPORT."
The U.S. State Department and several American media outlets have indicated that this special passport will be available as a standard option exclusively to those applying for or renewing their passports in person at the Washington Passport Agency starting this summer, with distribution continuing until supplies are exhausted. There will be no additional charge for this edition. U.S. citizens renewing online or at offices in other states will receive the standard international passports, which will not include Trump's portrait.
The commemorative passport is a component of the Trump administration's America250 promotional campaign. This campaign also includes the issuance of commemorative gold coins and plans for a Formula One race at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
