Khon kaen: Two young men were taken to the scene for a reenactment of the crime after allegedly abducting a woman with the intention of sexually assaulting her. They were immediately apprehended by police.
According to Thai News Agency, the case involves two men who abducted a 39-year-old woman, dragging her into a public restroom at a pond with the intention of rape. Fortunately, a police patrol from Ban Fang Police Station happened to pass by, allowing the woman to narrowly escape. Police have now taken the two men to the location where they abducted the woman at Bueng Sawang. The suspects admitted to making eye contact and nodding as a signal before committing the act.
On the night of August 2, 2026, CCTV footage from around Bueng Sawang Lake in Ban Fang Municipality, Ban Fang District, Khon Kaen Province, recorded the incident at 9:37 PM. A woman was being abducted and dragged into a restroom located next to the road in a public park. The footage shows the woman resisting, shouting for police help, and telling the two men, "Wait!" One man then saw something and ran away, leaving the other still trying to restrain the woman. The second man then released the woman and fled. The woman then waved for police assistance, saying, "They're gone! They were going to rape me!" However, the perpetrators escaped into the darkness. Police were able to apprehend them yesterday (August 3).
Recently, investigators from Ban Fang Police Station took Mr. Thanachote, or Fluke, 20 years old, and Mr. Sittichai, or Pipe, 21 years old, to the scene to reconstruct the crime and record their confessions on charges of jointly committing indecent acts against a person over 15 years of age and jointly detaining another person.
The first location was a long bench by the lake next to Maliwan Road, a main road with constant pedestrian traffic. Both suspects confessed that before the incident, they had been drinking alcohol at their home in Sawathi Subdistrict and then rode their motorcycles to go sightseeing. They arrived at Bueng Sawang Public Park and found the victim sitting alone. They claimed that they then drank alcohol with the victim in that area before the incident occurred.
The second location was in front of the restroom. When reporters asked who initiated the attack, the two suspects replied that no one led the group, but they looked at each other and nodded, understanding the situation before acting immediately. They said they had been riding their motorcycles around and saw the victim sitting alone. They invited her to sit and drink alcohol with them, and after some conversation, the victim got up and walked away. At that moment, the two suspects looked at each other and nodded as a signal before acting. They stated that the reason for the attack was that they were intoxicated, lacked self-control, and acted recklessly. They then apologized to the victim, her family, and society.
Pol. Col. Korapop Netthaisong, Superintendent of Ban Fang Police Station, stated that the investigation revealed the two perpetrators invited the victim to drink alcohol, spoke in a suggestive manner, and inquired about purchasing sexual services from the victim. The victim refused, stating that she was not that kind of person and that she was too old, before getting up and walking away to go home, leading to the incident.
Investigators have now formally charged both suspects and brought them in for detention, opposing bail due to the severity of the crime and its association with sexual offenses. A background check on both suspects revealed no prior criminal records, convictions, or arrests. Ban Fang Police Station warns the public visiting Bueng Sawang Public Park to exercise caution, especially at night, despite it being a designated safety zone with hourly police patrols.
